Four streets in a rural subdivision west of Van Alstyne would become county roads with a 20 mph speed limit under an order Grayson County commissioners are scheduled to consider Tuesday.
The streets are Cornstalk Way, Cottonwood Court, Harvest Meadows Lane and Homestead Court in the Harvest Meadows Addition, a 32-acre development along FM 3356. The recorded plat in the county's agenda package lays out 28 lots of roughly an acre apiece and lists Lackland Land Development of Van Alstyne as owner and developer.
The U.S. Census Bureau's address locator places Harvest Meadows Lane under a Van Alstyne mailing address, a few miles west of the city center.
What the order would do
Commissioners approved and recorded the subdivision's final plat on May 26, 2020, and the plat dedicated its streets to the public, according to the draft order, No. 2026-035. A note on the plat says the county will maintain the roads. An inspection of the streets took place July 28, 2026, and the order would accept them "in their present condition."
The order would:
- add the four streets to the county's road network and make the county responsible for maintaining them
- stop at the edge of the road right-of-way, so the county would not take on upkeep of the plat's drainage or utility easements or any channel outside the roadway
- set a 20 mph limit on each street, based on a finding that homes line most of at least 300 feet along each street, and direct the county engineer to post signs
Precinct 1 Commissioner Josh Marr placed the item on the agenda. The Commissioners Court meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the Commissioners Courtroom.
