Ground broken at Lake Texoma's Pointe Vista, where a Hard Rock Hotel is set to open in summer 2029

Crews have started $14.7 million in water and sewer work for the $500 million Marshall County, Okla., resort, its president said. A new four-lane U.S. 70 bridge is also being built.

Work has started on Pointe Vista, the resort development planned on the Oklahoma shore of Lake Texoma, beginning with pipes in the ground rather than the hotel itself.

Crews in Marshall County, Okla., are building the water, wastewater and stormwater lines the project needs before anything above ground can go up, Pointe Vista President Grant Speakes told KTEN and KXII this week. KTEN put the full development's cost at $500 million.

"We are very excited that we are starting work on the Hard Rock Hotel," Speakes told KTEN, comparing the infrastructure phase to building the ground floor of a house before the attic. He told the station this phase costs $14.7 million and is already funded.

What is coming, and when

According to both stations, Speakes said the Hard Rock Hotel, along with shops and residences, is not expected to open until summer 2029. KTEN's report also listed a bay among the pieces due by then. A Discovery Center at the site is set to open earlier, Speakes said, though neither report gave a date.

How the financing got approved

The project depends on a tax increment financing plan that Marshall County voters approved about a year ago, the stations reported.

Commissioner Chris Duroy of District 3 told KXII that he was the only one of the three commissioners at the time who supported the plan. Residents gathered enough petition signatures to put it on the ballot, he said, and about 60% of voters approved it.

Duroy said the county will see the effects first through construction crews staying at local motels, eating at restaurants and shopping at grocery stores, and later through tourists. "There will be so much here to do besides just fish and hang around," he told KXII.

A wider bridge on the way

KTEN reported that the replacement for the Roosevelt Bridge, which carries U.S. 70 across the lake between Marshall and Bryan counties, is also under construction and will widen that crossing to four lanes. Speakes told the station the bridge is expected to open in time for the hotel, which he said will make the resort easier to reach.
