A heavy equipment dealer that sells and rents bulldozers, excavators, cranes and paving machines has opened a full-service branch in Van Alstyne along U.S. 75.

Kirby-Smith Machinery Inc. announced the opening in an Oct. 6 post on its website. The branch is at 1400 N. Henry Hynds Expressway, with frontage on the highway, and the company says it will handle equipment sales, rentals, parts and service for customers north of Dallas-Fort Worth.

The site

The company describes the facility as about 29,600 square feet on roughly 14 acres. It has 12 service bays, office and shop space, and a separate building for washing down heavy machines.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which reviews building accessibility, has a project registration on file that lists the work at $10.9 million and describes it as site development plus two new metal buildings, one for the office and shop and another for wash-down. The state record lists 29,619 square feet and a status of "inspection complete."

Kirby-Smith says the building was delivered through a design-build approach with Parkway Construction & Architecture and Morphic Development.

What it sells

Brands the company lists for the Van Alstyne branch include Komatsu, Wirtgen, Vogele, Hamm, Kleemann and National Crane, along with Gradall, Vacall and several attachment makers.

"As development continues to move north, we want to make sure Kirby-Smith is positioned where our customers are working and growing," said Chad Cox, the company's sales and operations manager for Van Alstyne and Dallas, in the announcement.

Cox also thanked the city. "We are grateful to the City of Van Alstyne and everyone who helped bring this project to completion," he said.

Founded in 1983 and based in Oklahoma City, Kirby-Smith says the Van Alstyne branch joins 14 other locations in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. The announcement does not say how many people will work at the branch.
