Van Alstyne, Texas — Twenty-four grants totaling more than $5.8 million will go to graduate-level medical and nursing programs across Texas to expand training for physicians and nurses working in emergency and trauma medicine, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Monday.
The awards are made through the Emergency and Trauma Care Education Partnership Program, known as ETEP, which is managed by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The program funds hospital-and-university partnerships that expand the supply of physicians and nurses equipped to deliver life-saving emergency and trauma care.

Texas Commissioner of Higher Education Wynn Rosser said the program supports training in high-need specialties, including emergency and pediatric emergency medicine, along with surgical critical care. He said having more clinicians with critical-care expertise would broaden access to emergency medical care across the state.
