A Dominant Start Sets the Tone

The visiting Baylor Bears established control early and never relinquished it, securing a decisive 55-19 victory over the host Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday. The game’s defining narrative was written in the first half, where Baylor’s offense exploded for 24 points while holding the Sun Devils to just three.

DJ Lagway orchestrated the attack with precision, connecting on four touchdown passes to lead his team to a commanding advantage that would prove insurmountable despite a late rally attempt by Arizona State.

Offensive Explosion in the First Half

Baylor’s scoring began in earnest after Arizona State took an early 3-0 lead via a Carson Smith field goal. The Bears responded immediately, with Ryelan Morris breaking loose for a 63-yard touchdown run to give Baylor a 7-3 edge. Lagway then found Tony Livingston on a three-yard pass to extend the lead to 14-3 before halftime preparations began.

The second quarter saw Baylor’s offense continue its relentless pace. Louis Brown IV caught a ten-yard touchdown pass from Lagway, pushing the score to 21-3. Although Arizona State managed to chip away with a Smith field goal and a thirty-yard touchdown catch by Omarion Miller, Baylor answered before the half ended.

Rhett Armstrong added a field goal just prior to the break, making the halftime score 24-13 in favor of the Bears.

Third Quarter Surge Seals Fate

Baylor did not slow down after the intermission. The Bears outscored Arizona State 21-3 in the third period, effectively ending any hope of a comeback. Lagway connected with Hawkins Polley on a three-yard pass and Jadon Porter on an eight-yard throw to widen the gap. Caden Knighten added another dimension with a spectacular 75-yard touchdown run.

Arizona State’s Carson Smith kicked two more field goals in the third and fourth quarters, bringing his team within ten points at one stage. However, Baylor’s defense held firm against the passing attack of Cutter Boley, who finished with 304 yards but also threw an interception. Reed Harris led the Sun Devils receivers with 125 yards, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Final Score and Records

Baylor added two more scores in the fourth quarter. Lagway rushed for an eleven-yard touchdown, and Armstrong kicked a final field goal to cap the scoring at 55-19. The Bears improved their record to 4-1, while Arizona State fell to 2-2. The game was played in front of 54,063 fans at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, Arizona.
