Late Surge Caps Scoring Frenzy
The Houston Astros overcame a persistent Tampa Bay Rays offense to secure a 10-8 victory at Daikin Park on Saturday. The game featured six home runs and significant momentum shifts, with the Astros ultimately prevailing thanks to a decisive two-run homer by Alvarez in the ninth inning.
Houston took an early 2-1 lead in the first inning when Alvarez launched a 403-foot home run to left center, driving in Altuve. However, Tampa Bay answered immediately in the bottom of the frame. Palacios homered to right center (409 feet) to tie the game, and Mesa Jr. later scored on the same play. The Rays then seized control in the third inning. Mesa Jr. hit a sacrifice fly to center to make it 3-2, followed by a single from DeLuca that scored Caminero. Mullins then stole home to extend the lead to 6-2.
Rays Extend Lead Before Astros Fight Back
Tampa Bay continued to pile on runs in the fourth inning. Caminero grounded into a fielder's choice, but Walls scored on an error, and Feduccia reached second on a throwing error by shortstop Allen. Diaz then homered to right center (394 feet), scoring Walker to make it 7-4. The Rays added another run in the fifth when Alvarez singled to left, allowing Allen to score.
The Astros began their comeback in the seventh inning. DeLuca homered to left (355 feet) to cut the deficit to 8-5. Alvarez followed with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Trammell. Paredes then singled to left to score Allen, and Dezenzo singled to right to bring home Altuve, tying the game at 8-8.
