Late Surge Caps Scoring Frenzy

The Houston Astros overcame a persistent Tampa Bay Rays offense to secure a 10-8 victory at Daikin Park on Saturday. The game featured six home runs and significant momentum shifts, with the Astros ultimately prevailing thanks to a decisive two-run homer by Alvarez in the ninth inning.

Houston took an early 2-1 lead in the first inning when Alvarez launched a 403-foot home run to left center, driving in Altuve. However, Tampa Bay answered immediately in the bottom of the frame. Palacios homered to right center (409 feet) to tie the game, and Mesa Jr. later scored on the same play. The Rays then seized control in the third inning. Mesa Jr. hit a sacrifice fly to center to make it 3-2, followed by a single from DeLuca that scored Caminero. Mullins then stole home to extend the lead to 6-2.

Rays Extend Lead Before Astros Fight Back

Tampa Bay continued to pile on runs in the fourth inning. Caminero grounded into a fielder's choice, but Walls scored on an error, and Feduccia reached second on a throwing error by shortstop Allen. Diaz then homered to right center (394 feet), scoring Walker to make it 7-4. The Rays added another run in the fifth when Alvarez singled to left, allowing Allen to score.

The Astros began their comeback in the seventh inning. DeLuca homered to left (355 feet) to cut the deficit to 8-5. Alvarez followed with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Trammell. Paredes then singled to left to score Allen, and Dezenzo singled to right to bring home Altuve, tying the game at 8-8.

Pitching Struggles Define the Game

The game was characterized by heavy hitting and pitching difficulties for both sides. For Tampa Bay, Drew Rasmussen started and pitched 5.0 innings, allowing 6 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 2. He was followed by Cole Sulser, who took the loss after pitching 1.0 inning and allowing 3 earned runs. Garrett Cleavinger pitched 0.2 scoreless innings, and Craig Kimbrel earned the save with 1.1 innings of work, allowing no runs.

Houston’s Hunter Brown started on the mound, pitching 4.0 innings but giving up 6 hits and 6 earned runs. Nate Pearson pitched 1.0 inning, followed by Cristian Javier, who allowed 1 earned run over 2.0 innings. Bryan King pitched 1.0 scoreless inning, and Josh Hader earned the win with 1.0 inning of work, allowing no runs.

Alvarez capped the Astros' comeback with a 424-foot home run to center in the ninth inning, scoring Altuve to make it 10-8. The final attendance was 37,457. The Houston Astros improved their record to 44-47, while the Tampa Bay Rays fell to 52-34.
