A Decisive Fifth
The decisive moment for the New York Mets arrived in the fifth inning, when Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor combined to extend their lead. Soto singled to right field, allowing Lindor to score from second base. Immediately after, Soto reached on a triple to right field, scoring both himself and Benge. This two-run play pushed the Mets' advantage to three runs, a cushion they would never relinquish in the remainder of the contest.
Scoring Sequence
The game began with quick exchanges in the first inning. Alvarez sacrificed a fly to right field, scoring Peña for the Astros to make it 1-0. However, the Mets responded immediately in the bottom half. Young singled to right, driving in Lindor and moving Benge to second base, tying the score at 1-1. The Mets then took control in the fifth with the aforementioned two-run rally. In the eighth inning, the Astros managed to score twice, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Alvarez homered to right center field, a blast of 436 feet, to make it 2-4. Later in the same frame, Alvarez doubled to left field, scoring Semien and Young, bringing the final margin to four runs.
