Overmyer’s four TD catches lift Houston past Kansas State, 35-16

Houston takes control

The turning point came in the second quarter, when Houston Cougars quarterback Conner Weigman found Patrick Overmyer for a 2-yard touchdown pass and Makhi Hughes added a 13-yard rushing touchdown. Those scores gave the visiting Cougars a 21-3 halftime lead in a 35-16 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas.

Overmyer became Weigman’s target again in the third quarter, catching an 8-yard touchdown pass to push Houston’s lead to 28-3. He added another 2-yard touchdown reception later in the period, giving him four touchdown catches in the game and Houston a 35-9 advantage.

Scoring sequence

Houston opened the scoring in the first quarter on Weigman’s 1-yard touchdown pass to Overmyer, followed by Jonathan Dimas’ extra point. Kansas State answered with Luis Rodriguez’s 29-yard field goal to make it 7-3 after one quarter.

The Cougars scored twice in the second quarter for their 21-3 halftime margin. Kansas State cut into the deficit in the third quarter when Avery Johnson connected with Garrett Oakley on a 13-yard touchdown pass. The Wildcats did not convert the two-point pass attempt, leaving the score at 28-9 before Overmyer’s final touchdown reception.

Kansas State added its last points in the fourth quarter on Johnson’s 6-yard touchdown pass to Jaron Tibbs, with Rodriguez’s kick making the score 35-16. The quarter scores were Houston 7, 14, 14 and 0; Kansas State 3, 0, 6 and 7.

Key performers

Weigman completed 19 of 30 passes for 242 yards and four touchdowns for Houston. Overmyer had eight receptions for 83 yards and four touchdowns. Re’Shaun Sanford II carried 20 times for 90 yards, while Hughes also scored on the ground.

Johnson completed 16 of 30 passes for 182 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for Kansas State. Oakley caught three passes for 49 yards and one touchdown, and Rodney Fields Jr. had 14 carries for 46 yards.

Attendance was 51,569. Kansas State fell to 3-2, while Houston moved to 5-1.
