Construction crews have started work on Lone Tree, a two-phase residential project located on the west side of Van Alstyne. The development is expected to add more than 360 homes to the area. According to Mike Shaw, a spokesperson for the city, the first phase of the project includes a 10-acre park known as Lone Tree Park.
The developer intends to transfer ownership of the park to the city for public use. Shaw noted that local youth soccer teams currently share space in the outfield at Forrest Moore Park. He stated that the new facility will feature a full regulation soccer field, along with a smaller area designated for younger players, which he described as a significant benefit for local youth leagues.
In addition to the soccer facilities, the 10-acre site will contain lighted pickleball courts, a playground, and a shaded dog park. Walking trails are also planned to connect the area to a public fishing pond. Shaw indicated that this may be the first in a series of developments that include public parks, noting that the developer is providing this specific park to the city.
Regarding the construction timeline, crews plan to pave roads before pouring foundations during the winter months. The city expects the park to be completed by March, with a grand opening scheduled for April.
