Crews are preparing Pecan Grove West Park in Sherman for the upcoming Lights on the Lake celebration, which marks the nation’s 250th birthday. The event is scheduled for Thursday and will feature live music and a fireworks display. Sherman is about 15 miles north of Van Alstyne.
Sarah McRae, the Tourism and Main Street Manager for the City of Sherman, described the production as a major undertaking for the community. She advised attendees to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion and ensure they have time to settle in before the program begins. The park gates open at 4 p.m., with the national anthem starting at 7:15 p.m. The band Collective Soul is set to perform at 7:45 p.m., followed by the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.
Parking is available near the park entrance, but McRae recommended the Pecan Grove Athletic Complex for those seeking paved spaces. Visitors with handicap placards will be directed to an accessible lot where a golf cart can provide transportation to the event area. Parking and admission to the event are free and open to the public.
Attendees are permitted to bring coolers, umbrellas, and shade structures into the park. However, shade structures must be lowered once the show begins. Pets are allowed on the premises but must remain on a leash and behave appropriately given the loud environment. Bounce houses will be available for children, with wristbands priced at $5. Approximately 20 vendors will be on-site offering food and drinks. The fireworks display is sponsored by Simmons Bank and will include a flyover by an F-4 Phantom aircraft.
