Steve Nabors Named Interim Chief of Police for Van Alstyne ISD

Van Alstyne Independent School District has announced that Officer Steve Nabors has been named Interim Chief of Police. This appointment follows the resignation of Chief Charles Milner, which is effective September 30, 2026.

The district stated that Chief Milner served with dedication and professionalism, working to support the safety and security of students, staff, families, and the community. VAISD expressed appreciation for his service and wished him continued success in his future endeavors.

To ensure a smooth transition and continued leadership, the district selected Nabors, who brings extensive experience in law enforcement and leadership. His focus during the transition will remain on maintaining a safe and secure learning environment while supporting the students, staff, and families of Van Alstyne ISD.

Dr. David L. Brown, Superintendent of Van Alstyne ISD, emphasized the district's commitment to strong leadership and continuity within the Police Department.

“Safety is one of our highest priorities, and we are committed to ensuring strong leadership and continuity within our Police Department,” Brown said. “We appreciate Chief Milner for his service to Van Alstyne ISD and wish him the very best. We are also pleased to have Steve Nabors step into the role of Interim Chief.

As Interim Chief, Nabors will work closely with district leadership, police department personnel, campus administrators, and community partners to continue strengthening the department and its commitment to student and staff safety. The district confirmed that all VAISD campuses will remain staffed with a VAISD police officer during this transition period.
