The Van Alstyne ISD Homecoming Parade will travel through downtown Van Alstyne beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The event is scheduled to start on Williams Way and proceed south on Highway 5 toward the city center. The route will then turn left onto Jefferson Street, also known as Highway 121, travel north on Main Street, and conclude at the Central Social District.
A community pep rally is planned to follow the parade.
City officials advise motorists to expect temporary road closures and traffic delays along the route, as the parade will take place during a typically busy time for traffic. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and use alternate routes when possible.
The announcement lists several intersections expected to be affected by the event.
These include Highway 5 and Williams Way, Highway 5 and Echols Street, Highway 5 and Kincaid Street, Highway 5 and Garver Street, Highway 5 and Blassingame Avenue, Highway 5 and Baldwin Avenue, Highway 5 and Columbia College Drive, Highway 5 and Texana Street, Highway 5 and Stinnett Street, Highway 5 and Tolson Street, Highway 5 and Wade Street, Highway 5 and Cooper Street, and Highway 5 and Van Alstyne Parkway.
Additional affected areas include Highway 5 and Jefferson Street/Highway 121, Preston Street and Jefferson Street, Jefferson Street near the railroad tracks, and Main Street and Van Alstyne Parkway.
For the safety of spectators and participants, organizers state that candy, souvenirs, and other objects may not be thrown from floats. Parade participants are instructed to follow all safety guidelines provided by organizers. The city encourages residents to line the route and participate in the Homecoming spirit.
