Baylor's medical staff has approved quarterback DJ Lagway to play against Colorado in the teams' Big 12 opener at McLane Stadium in Waco. Lagway has been out since Sept. 5 with an ankle injury, after coach Dave Aranda forecast earlier in the week that he could return. Baylor and Colorado both entered the matchup with 2-1 records.
Nate Bennett will return to the backup position after starting the past two games. In those appearances, he posted a 75% completion rate with 567 passing yards, six touchdown passes and two interceptions. He also gained 15 yards rushing and scored twice.
Baylor will have wide receiver Jadon Porter, defensive back Devin Turner and defensive tackle Hosea Wheeler available. Porter and Turner were listed as probable, while Wheeler was upgraded from questionable later in the week. The unavailable Bears are safety Jacob Redding, cornerback Jamarion Richardson, defensive lineman Devonte Tezino, offensive lineman Cayden Tone and wide receiver Ashton Jones.
Colorado has ruled out wide receiver Danny Scudero, cornerback Preston Ashley, linebacker Colby Johnson, defensive lineman Vili Taufatofua, offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter and tight end Charlie Williams. Scudero and Williams have totaled 94 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown this season. Offensive lineman Xavier Payne remained a game-time decision.
The game is set for 11 a.m. Central on Saturday, Sept. 26, and will air on ESPN2, with Lowell Galindo and Kirk Morrison scheduled to call it. The report was published by si.com.
