DJ Lagway is set to take the field as the starting quarterback for Baylor in their opening game against Auburn, which will take place at a neutral site in Atlanta. This matchup is significant for both teams, as they concluded the previous season with matching records of 5-7.

Last season, Baylor's passing offense was led by Sawyer Robertson, who achieved 3,681 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, with a completion rate of 60.3%. The Bears also had Bryson Washington contributing in the rushing game, gaining 788 yards on 154 carries and scoring six touchdowns. Notably, Josh Cameron was a key receiver, amassing 872 yards from 69 receptions and nine touchdowns.

Auburn's offense was directed by Jackson Arnold, who passed for 1,309 yards, recording six touchdowns and two interceptions, with a completion percentage of 63.3%. Jeremiah Cobb led the rushing for Auburn, gaining 969 yards on 175 carries and scoring five touchdowns, while Cam Coleman was the top receiver with 708 yards on 56 catches and five touchdowns.

Both teams aim to improve their records this season, with Baylor scheduled to host Prairie View A&M on September 12, and Auburn set to face Southern Miss on the same day. The upcoming game in Atlanta presents a crucial opportunity for both programs to start their seasons on a positive note.
