As the Dallas Cowboys finalize their roster for the upcoming NFL season, quarterback Joe Milton has been retained on the practice squad. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed his excitement about Milton's return, highlighting the positive impact he has on the team, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota.
Milton was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 draft. Although he only appeared in one regular-season game with the Patriots, he demonstrated his strong arm during preseason play. After being traded to the Cowboys in April 2025, he participated in four games, gaining experience without making a start.
Although Milton was waived at the end of August, he chose to return to the Cowboys' practice squad, reflecting his contentment with the team's trajectory. Schottenheimer and the coaching staff are optimistic about Milton's development and are pleased with his decision to remain.
The Cowboys are scheduled to begin their 2026 season on September 13, facing off against the New York Giants, with quarterback Jaxson Dart leading the team.
