The Dallas Cowboys are scheduled to fly about 5,220 miles to Rio de Janeiro to play the Baltimore Ravens, making the round trip nearly 10,500 miles. The NFL-record international journey will not be followed by a bye week. Baltimore’s trip from its home city is approximately 4,781 miles.
The game is set for 5:25 p.m. local time in Rio, one hour ahead of Eastern Time. A schedule described by CBS Sports indicates the teams might not leave Brazil until after midnight, and the Cowboys could spend more than 10 hours on the flight back to Dallas, arriving near noon on Monday.
In Week 4, Dallas is scheduled to visit the Houston Texans, while Baltimore is set to host the Tennessee Titans.
Comparable NFL travel has previously been followed by extra rest. The Rams flew 5,456 miles to London last season and then had a bye. The Rams and San Francisco 49ers traveled over 7,800 miles to Australia for a Week 1 game and received at least 10 days before their next games.
Earlier Brazil games were also in Week 1. Before this trip, Denver’s 4,670-mile London journey in Week 6 last season was the longest without a later bye. CBS Sports also cited Miami’s 2021 trip of at least 4,400 miles, followed by losses to Jacksonville in London and a later comeback from a double-digit deficit.
