The Dallas Cowboys have recently restructured contracts for several players, including defensive tackle Kenny Clark, cornerback DaRon Bland, and tight end Jake Ferguson, resulting in an increase of $19 million in their salary cap.
Before these changes, the team had approximately $14.2 million in cap space, but now estimates suggest it could be around $33.2 million, with some reports indicating it might reach as high as $34.8 million.
This substantial increase in cap space provides the Cowboys with options for potential trades as the season continues. Although NFL Network's Jane Slater has noted that the team is not currently preparing for an immediate trade, the restructures were primarily intended to enhance financial flexibility.
Nick Harris from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram added that the Cowboys might consider trades closer to the deadline if circumstances allow.
Additionally, ESPN's Todd Archer mentioned that any unused cap space can be carried over into the 2027 season, which adds to the strategic planning for the team. Speculation among fans includes a possible trade for Raiders' Maxx Crosby, although such a move seems unlikely at this time. Overall, the Cowboys' recent financial maneuvers have opened up various possibilities as the season progresses.
