The National Football Foundation announced Sept. 23 that Texas defensive lineman Hero Kanu is a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
The award honors a scholarship athlete based on academic achievement, performance on the field and leadership. Burnt Orange Nation, the source of the report, provided no further information about why Kanu was selected.
Texas has placed a player among the award’s finalists during both of the previous two seasons. Linebacker Trey Moore reached that stage in 2025, while center Jake Majors did so in 2024.
The Longhorns have produced two Campbell Trophy winners. Center Dallas Griffin received the award in 2007, and defensive end Sam Acho followed in 2010.
