The New England Patriots have made a notable roster change by trading wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In return, the Patriots acquired Jaylen Reed along with a seventh-round draft pick scheduled for 2028.
At 24 years old, Boutte faced stiff competition for playing time after the Patriots added AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs to their receiving lineup. Other players on the roster included DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism, which limited his chances to see the field.
Head coach Mike Vrabel indicated that the trade would benefit Boutte, providing him with a better opportunity to contribute with the Texans instead of remaining inactive in New England. He acknowledged the depth at the wide receiver position, stating, "I think for all parties involved, that was probably the best thing."
Boutte's lack of involvement on special teams likely would have kept him inactive during games without injuries to other players. Last season, he participated in 14 games, achieving 33 receptions for 551 yards and a career-high of six touchdowns.
As he joins the Texans, Boutte is anticipated to take on a backup role, as the starting positions are already filled by Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel.
