TCU has removed safety Jacob Fields from its football roster just under two weeks before the season opener against North Carolina. This decision follows a physical altercation that reportedly occurred in the locker room on August 13, as documented in the TCU crime and fire log.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the incident was characterized as aggravated assault. Sources indicated that Fields was involved in a confrontation with an offensive player and had previously expressed concerns about being targeted by teammates through insults and threats, including being spat on.
Before the altercation, Fields had reached out to the coaching staff multiple times about the rising tensions but did not receive any response. Fields transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason and was anticipated to start at free safety for the Horned Frogs.
In 2025, he was named the Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year, leading Louisiana Tech with 92 tackles and three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. He also had 2.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups last season. Further details regarding the incident have not yet been disclosed.
