Caden Powell, a native of Waco and former player at Baylor, is returning to the basketball team for the 2026-27 season following a court injunction in Ohio. Previously, Powell played for Wyoming and Rice before joining Baylor last season, where he transitioned from a backup center to a starter due to team injuries.
This season's Baylor roster is evolving, with head coach Scott Drew aiming to create a deeper lineup to withstand a full season and compete effectively. Powell's unexpected availability enhances the team's depth, although he may not start immediately. His defensive skills and ability to contribute as a lob threat are expected to be significant assets for the Bears.
The projected depth chart includes Kayden Mingo and Dylan Mingo as starters in the guard positions, with Isaac Celiscar and Evan Chatman starting as wings. Juslin Bodo Bodo is anticipated to start at center, with Powell and Mayo Soyoye in the rotation.
Powell's experience will be vital for the relatively young team, as he joins only the second senior, Chatman, alongside Bodo Bodo, in providing leadership and chemistry as the season approaches.
