Several Dallas defensive players missed Wednesday’s practice as the Cowboys prepared for Baltimore. Defensive backs Cobie Durant, Malik Hooker and P.J. Locke, as well as linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, did not participate. A report from sports.yahoo.com gave no further details about the absences.
The Cowboys are set to start 2026 draft selections Caleb Downs and Jaishawn Barham on defense Sunday. Malachi Lawrence, another rookie from the class, is expected to handle important rotational snaps. Downs and Barham are two of Dallas’ leading selections from the draft.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the team had planned to give its young players significant opportunities, saying, “We knew we wanted our young guys to play.” He called Downs an elite player and said Barham has created major turnovers whenever he has played. Schottenheimer also highlighted Lawrence’s pass-rushing ability while noting that the rookies will make mistakes as they develop.
