TCU is actively seeking a new starting quarterback after Josh Hoover's surprising transfer to reigning national champions Indiana. Hoover's exit follows a season where TCU finished with an 8-4 record, raising hopes for a strong Big 12 championship run and potential NFL draft prospects.
Before Hoover's announcement, TCU's personnel team had already begun identifying quarterback candidates, not foreseeing his departure. General manager Ryan Dorchester expressed that Hoover was considered a crucial player for the upcoming season, and his transfer was unexpected. Nevertheless, they had started scouting quarterbacks as a backup plan in case he decided to enter the NFL draft.
The Horned Frogs are particularly interested in an upperclassman with one year of eligibility left, as they view high school signee Adam Schobel as their long-term quarterback option. Following Hoover's transfer confirmation, TCU quickly signed Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who performed well at Harvard for two seasons.
Dorchester had initially noticed Craig while reviewing film of a Harvard receiver and praised him for his efficiency, decisiveness, and strong arm.
Despite Hoover's solid performance throughout the season, he did not generate notable interest from the NFL draft, which led TCU's coaching staff to think he would stay. However, head coach Sonny Dykes sensed a shift in Hoover's mindset as the season concluded, suggesting a transfer was a possibility.
