The Houston Texans have announced the signing of defensive tackle Junior Tafuna to their practice squad on September 2, 2026. This decision marks Tafuna's return to the Texans after he initially played for the team during his rookie season, having gone undrafted in 2025.

Tafuna was waived by the Texans on August 5 and was subsequently claimed by the New York Jets. However, he was released during the Jets' roster cuts. Now back in Houston, Tafuna is expected to provide additional depth for a team with aspirations for a Super Bowl.

During his time at the University of Utah, Tafuna accumulated impressive statistics, including 108 combined tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 15 tackles for loss throughout four seasons. Analysts have noted that while he may not possess all the ideal traits sought after in interior defenders, his athleticism could be an asset.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlien characterized him as gritty at the point of attack and capable of handling double-teams, although he has a limited margin for error. Further updates regarding Tafuna's contributions to the Texans are anticipated as the season unfolds.
