The Houston Texans have strengthened their roster with significant signings during training camp, such as Jadeveon Clowney, the former No. 1 overall pick, and defensive lineman Mario Edwards. However, the team has not made substantial adjustments to its wide receiver unit, opting to rely on younger talent already present on the roster.
As the regular season nears, the Texans' opportunities to secure a standout wide receiver are dwindling. Top free agents like Deebo Samuel, Stefon Diggs, and Keenan Allen have signed with other franchises, limiting Houston's options. Although Tyreek Hill is still a free agent, concerns regarding his recovery from a torn ACL injury make his signing unlikely.
Other potential additions, such as Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Lockett, and DeAndre Hopkins, may not significantly enhance the Texans' current receiving corps.
The Texans may decide to stick with their existing wide receiver lineup, featuring players like Nico Collins as a likely WR1 and Jayden Higgins as a potential WR2. Additionally, contributions are expected from Jaylin Noel and Xavier Hutchinson, with a healthy Tank Dell also being a factor.
Despite not acquiring a major new signing, the Texans' management seems to have confidence in their current group of wide receivers. With over $20 million in cap space available, they retain the ability to make future roster moves if needed, but the prospect of adding another significant wide receiver before the season appears slim.
