The Houston Texans have officially named veteran wide receiver Justin Watson as a starter after Jayden Higgins suffered a season-ending torn ACL. This decision comes as the Texans evaluate their receiving group, particularly after acquiring Kayshon Boutte.
Watson, who has won three Super Bowls, is entering his second season with the Texans. His placement on the depth chart has drawn attention, especially since he is expected to line up alongside Nico Collins, a two-time Pro Bowler.
Jeremy Beadling from Texans Today mentioned that while Watson's new role may not be entirely unexpected, it does prompt speculation regarding his chances of making the final roster.
Reports indicate that the Texans may retain six receivers, which includes Watson, but Jonathan M. Alexander from the Houston Chronicle noted that Watson's position could be jeopardized due to the addition of Boutte. As the Texans prepare for their upcoming preseason game against the Panthers, Watson's ability to perform will be crucial.
Standing at 6-foot-2, he may have an edge over Boutte, who is 5-foot-11, but Watson must prove his productivity and health to secure his place on the team.
