The Houston Texans placed Jake Hummel on injured reserve before their Week 3 meeting with the Indianapolis Colts, sidelining him for at least four games. Hummel sustained a groin injury in the previous game against Cincinnati and missed six straight team practices.
He is expected to miss the Colts matchup, a Week 4 home game with Dallas, and road games against Tennessee and Jacksonville in London.
Hummel has mainly played special teams and has 150 defensive snaps in his career. His move gives Houston four linebackers on injured reserve or the physically unable to perform list. E.J.

The Texans have five linebackers on their 53-man roster: Azeez Al-Shaair, Jake Hansen, Jamal Hill, Wade Woodaz and Aiden Fisher. Hill recently moved up from the practice squad. First-year picks Woodaz and Fisher could see larger roles on defense and special teams.
