The Houston Texans have signed defensive end Chris Braswell, who was recently released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after two seasons.
Braswell, a former five-star recruit from Alabama, recorded eight sacks and ten tackles for loss during his college career, stepping in as the Jack linebacker after Will Anderson Jr. His performance ranked second on the team, behind only Dallas Turner, who was selected 17th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Despite his promising collegiate career, Braswell struggled to make an impact in the NFL. Drafted in the second round by Tampa Bay, he accumulated only two and a half sacks over two seasons and never secured a starting position. His release followed a lack of production and limited pass rush strategy, compounded by injuries that hindered his preseason performance.
With the Texans, Braswell reunites with former Alabama teammate Will Anderson Jr. and Logan Hall, who also played with the Buccaneers. He will join the practice squad and is expected to train as the team's only defensive end. The Texans are currently facing injury challenges at the position, which could lead to Braswell being elevated to the active roster soon.
Adapting to Houston's 4-3 defensive scheme will require Braswell to focus on edge-setting and pass rushing, presenting him with an opportunity to develop his skills further and meet the expectations that accompanied his college career.
