Sandell decides it
Tate Sandell's 47-yard field goal on the final scoring play lifted the Oklahoma Sooners to a 27-24 victory over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Oklahoma, the home team, rallied from a 17-7 deficit and finished the fourth quarter with 17 points.
The kick followed a fourth quarter in which the teams traded several momentum-changing scores. Oklahoma tied the game at 17-17 when Lloyd Avant scored on a 2-yard run, with Sandell adding the kick. The Sooners then took a 24-17 lead after Peyton Bowen returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown, followed by another Sandell kick.
Fourth-quarter exchange
Texas answered when Arch Manning connected with Jermaine Bishop Jr. on a 15-yard touchdown pass. Gianni Spetic's kick made it 24-24 before Sandell's field goal gave Oklahoma the final three points.
The Longhorns built their early advantage with two Manning touchdown passes. Cam Coleman caught a 41-yard touchdown pass in the first period, and Ryan Wingo added a 34-yard touchdown reception in the second. Spetic also kicked a 23-yard field goal, putting Texas ahead 17-7 at halftime.
Oklahoma's first points came in the second period, when Dakoda Fields returned a blocked punt 0 yards for a touchdown. Sandell's 53-yard field goal was the only scoring play of the third period, cutting the Texas lead to 17-10.
