Turning Point
The decisive moment of the contest arrived in the sixth inning when Corey Seager connected with a 374-foot solo home run to right field. That blow extended the Texas Rangers' lead to 3-1, a cushion the pitching staff would hold onto for the remainder of the game.
The Rangers had already built a 2-1 advantage in the first inning, but it was Seager’s power that secured the final margin of victory.
Early Scoring
The New York Mets opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Francisco Lindor crossed the plate on a single by Benge, putting the visitors ahead 1-0. The Rangers responded immediately in the bottom half of the first inning.
Jung drove a 369-foot home run to left field, bringing in Foscue to score two runs. This play flipped the score to 2-1 in favor of the home team. No other runs were scored until the sixth inning, leaving the game tied at 1-1 before Seager’s homer.
Pitching Performance
Kumar Rocker earned the win for the Rangers, pitching five innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out four batters. Zac Thornton took the loss for the Mets after five innings of work.
Thornton surrendered four hits and two earned runs, walking one batter and striking out four. The Rangers' bullpen provided the final four innings of relief. Robert Garcia, Tyler Alexander, Chase Silseth, and Jordan Montgomery combined to allow one hit and no earned runs.
Montgomery recorded the save, pitching the ninth inning without allowing a hit or a walk, and striking out one batter.
