Texas announced July 10 that Marcus Spears Jr. signed to join its men’s basketball program in 2026-27 after moving from the Class of 2027 to the 2026 class.
Before reclassifying, Spears was the nation’s top-rated 2027 prospect, Texas said. ESPN ranks him No. 4 in the 2026 class.
The Frisco forward is listed at 6-foot-10. Texas reported that he averaged 15.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks at Dynamic Prep as a junior.
Texas has a statewide fan base that includes Van Alstyne. Spears will enroll in Austin for the 2026-27 season.
