Sixth-Inning Surge
The Houston Astros overcame an early 5-0 deficit by exploding for nine runs in the sixth inning, securing a 9-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field on Friday. The decisive offensive push began with a single by Wade Jr. to right field that drove in Alvarez, cutting the lead to 5-1.
The inning quickly turned into a rout when Walker doubled to left, bringing home Paredes, Wade Jr., and Altuve to give Houston its first lead, 4-5.
Smith capitalized on the momentum with a home run to left field, measuring 383 feet, which extended the Astros' advantage to 6-5. Altuve added to the tally with an infield single to shortstop, scoring Peña, while Wade Jr. walked to bring in another run, making it 8-5. The sixth-inning barrage accounted for eight of Houston's nine total runs, completely shifting the momentum of the game.
White Sox Early Control
Chicago had established a commanding 5-0 lead before Houston's offensive awakening. The White Sox struck first in the top of the first inning when C. Montgomery hit a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Antonacci to score. B. Montgomery followed with a single to right, driving in Murakami, and Meidroth was hit by a pitch to score Vargas, making it 3-0.
The White Sox added two more runs in the fifth inning. Benintendi scored on a wild pitch by Houston's Kai-Wei Teng, followed by another wild pitch that allowed Benintendi to score again. Meidroth then doubled to center, scoring B. Montgomery to make the score 5-0.
Despite the early deficit, the Astros' pitching staff worked to keep the game within reach, with AJ Blubaugh and Spencer Arrighetti contributing innings before Teng took the mound.
