A Master Gardener Intern Class is set to commence in Sherman on September 9. The program will take place at the Grayson County Courthouse. Sherman is located approximately 15 miles north of Van Alstyne.

The Upper Trinity region is also introducing new educational initiatives focused on lawn care. Representatives are utilizing friendly characters to discuss best practices for watering lawns. This effort aims to help local residents manage their landscapes more effectively.

In other local developments, the Creative Arts Center has announced its July art show theme. The exhibit, titled "Patriotic Textures & Textiles," honors the country's 250th Anniversary. The center is encouraging artists to incorporate red, white, and blue colors and patriotic motifs into their work. While all mediums are welcome, the gallery specifically hopes to feature fiber arts. This show will serve as one of the stops for the Bonham Quilt Hop & Fiber Arts Show, scheduled for July 24 and 25. Artists must submit their work by July 1.

Regarding infrastructure, TxDOT officials have announced upcoming road closures. Nightly full closures of the eastbound and westbound US 82 mainlanes and the eastbound US 82 frontage roads will occur from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. from July 2 until July 3. Additionally, US 75 northbound mainlanes will face nightly full closures from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. from July 1 until July 2. The northbound entrance ramp from SH 91, Texoma Parkway, will also be closed nightly from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. on June 29 and June 30.

In legal news, Jonathan Mark Fleming, 41, was sentenced to federal prison for bank robberies in the Eastern District of Texas. Fleming pleaded guilty to bank robbery and received a 78-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Richard Schell on June 29, 2026. He had committed three armed robberies of banks.

On June 29, 2026, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Bonham Police Officers responded to a call regarding an unresponsive person at 414 Jo Aynn Circle. The nature of the incident was described as a mental subject call.

In commercial development, Big V Property Group and The Seitz Group are breaking ground on Rosamond Town Center in Anna. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the southeast corner of Rosamond Parkway and Hwy. 75. The 355,826-square-foot open-air center will be anchored by Academy Sports + Outdoors, Aldi, Burlington, EOS Fitness, Hobby Lobby, HomeGoods, PetSmart, and T.J. Maxx. Several outparcels and specialty stores will also be part of the project.

Local government bodies have scheduled several meetings. A public hearing for the annexation of approximately 183.681 acres east of U.S. 75 and south of Tate Circle is pending. The Sherman City Council will hold a public hearing at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, in the Council Chambers at 220 W. Mulberry St. Fannin County Commissioners Court will hold special meetings on July 7 at 8:50 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and on June 30 at 10:00 a.m. These meetings will be held at the Fannin County Courthouse and via teleconference. A public hearing is also scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, at the Fannin County Courthouse and via teleconference.

Further details regarding the Master Gardener Intern Class curriculum and enrollment requirements are not yet clear.
