Van Alstyne Independent School District Superintendent Dr. David Brown sent a message to families on Tuesday, thanking them for their trust and patience as the district completed the first week of the 2026–2027 school year.

In a letter addressed to Van Alstyne ISD families, Brown stated that entrusting the district with their children is one of the greatest responsibilities the school holds. He noted that it has been exciting to see campuses filled with energy and new beginnings, highlighting the dedication of teachers and staff in preparing for the new year.

Brown acknowledged the normal challenges associated with the start of the school year, including traffic, transportation, schedules, and new routines. He expressed appreciation for the support families provided while the district worked through these initial adjustments. The superintendent emphasized that a successful school year requires collaboration between the district and families.

The letter also addressed the district’s commitment to meeting the individual needs of students. Brown stated that every child is unique and that the district aims to ensure every student feels known, valued, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential.

The 2026–2027 school year theme is “Blazing Trails to Brighter Futures.” Brown said this theme represents the district’s goal to help students discover their passions, build confidence, and prepare for their futures. He concluded by thanking families for being part of the Van Alstyne ISD family and expressed excitement about the journey ahead.

The letter was signed by David L. Brown, Ed.D., Superintendent of Van Alstyne ISD, and included the district’s motto: “It's a Great Day to be Alive and a Panther!”
