The Dallas Cowboys are giving rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham responsibility for defensive communication in their Week 2 game against the Washington Commanders, sportingnews.com reported. Coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed Barham will wear the green dot Sunday.

The change follows Dallas’ 28-point loss to the New York Giants in Week 1, when the Cowboys struggled to contain the Giants’ offense. Defensive coordinator Christian Parker is making the adjustment before the teams’ NFC East meeting.

Barham was selected in the third round out of Michigan and will handle the communication role against Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels. The Cowboys and Commanders both lost to division opponents in Week 1. Dallas’ offensive performance against Washington’s defense, along with Barham’s handling of the defensive responsibilities, are among the developments ahead of the matchup.
