Baylor defensive tackle Devonte Tezino is out for the rest of the season because of a leg injury suffered in the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M. Coach Dave Aranda said Tezino had become one of the team’s leading performers at the position following the season opener, and Baylor will miss the progress he made. Tezino recorded two sacks against Auburn.

The injury could increase the role of Braylen Jackson, whom Aranda said has helped Baylor against the run. Aranda called Jackson a physical player and said his work stopping the run gives the team confidence. Other defensive linemen also are expected to take on more responsibility.

Baylor’s defensive line was considered a major strength entering the season, but Tezino’s absence will challenge the unit’s depth for the remainder of the schedule. The Bears were already without senior safety and defensive leader Jacob Redding, who suffered a torn ACL before the season opener against Auburn.
