The Dallas Cowboys have added Tyler Goodson to their backfield plans by placing the running back on the practice squad. The move came after Dallas waived Israel Abanikanda and released 2025 draft selections Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue late in training camp.

Goodson led the Atlanta Falcons in preseason rushing with 92 yards and scored on a 49-yard touchdown run. During three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, he totaled 264 rushing yards and one touchdown on 54 carries. He also made 19 receptions for 103 yards and another touchdown.

Falcons running back Bijan Robinson praised Goodson in comments to Blogging The Boys reporter RJ Ochoa. Robinson described him as an elite player who can cut across the field, contribute as a receiver and fill several offensive roles. Robinson also said he wanted Goodson to stay in Atlanta.

Dallas is adding backfield depth following an injury to Malik Davis, and Goodson’s speed and receiving skills provide another option, though the source said his opportunities to play appear limited. The Cowboys are preparing for Week 2 against the Washington Commanders after their opener against the New York Giants ended in a loss.

Dallas ran for under 100 yards in that game, with Javonte Williams gaining 41 yards.
