The Dallas Cowboys achieved a 17-7 win against the Seattle Seahawks in their first preseason matchup, but running back Phil Mafah's chest injury during the game raised concerns. Initially listed as questionable, Mafah was later ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Fortunately, early assessments indicate that the injury may not be severe. Currently, Mafah ranks third on the Cowboys' depth chart, following Javonte Williams and Jaydon Blue. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer commented on Mafah's condition, saying, "He's doing alright. I spoke with him, and I believe we came out fine, just some minor bumps and bruises."
Alongside Mafah, safety Justin Barron also faced a hit during the game. Schottenheimer mentioned that the team would evaluate the players further once they return to Oxnard for treatment.
Mafah, selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, is competing for a position on the final 53-man roster after a difficult rookie season where he participated in just one game, managing five carries for 18 yards and a touchdown.
In contrast, veteran running back Malik Davis made a notable impact against the Seahawks, achieving seven carries for 39 yards, which averages to 5.5 yards per carry. As the Cowboys gear up for roster cuts, player health, especially Mafah's, remains a priority during the preseason.
