The Dallas Cowboys have added running back Tyler Goodson from the Atlanta Falcons after a 69-yard rushing performance against the New York Giants in Week 1. The move came with the release of Israel Abanikanda, creating a roster spot for Goodson.
Abanikanda, a former Pitt running back, appeared in six NFL games before his release, all with the New York Jets during the 2023 season. He did not establish a regular NFL role. During Pitt’s 2022 season, he ran 239 times for 1,431 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Dallas struggled against the Giants’ defensive front early in the game. He said the team allowed too much penetration and was physically outplayed at the line of scrimmage. Schottenheimer also said Javonte Williams had trouble finding running room at the beginning, though the Cowboys made adjustments after halftime.
