Baylor is taking a cautious approach with quarterback DJ Lagway as he recovers from an ankle injury suffered in the Bears' 17-16 season-opening loss to Auburn. Lagway is unlikely to play Saturday against Louisiana Tech, which could give Nate Bennett a second consecutive start.
Baylor coach Dave Aranda said Lagway looked good in a Sunday practice, and the quarterback was expected to participate with the team during the week. On3 reporter Pete Nakos said Lagway is projected to be available for Baylor's Big 12 opener against Colorado on Sept. 26. Colorado is scheduled to play Northwestern before traveling to Baylor, while Baylor will face Louisiana Tech first.
Lagway remained in the Auburn game after being hurt and produced 333 passing yards, two touchdown throws and an interception. A wrap was visible on his ankle afterward. He missed Baylor's following game, a 44-3 win over Prairie View A&M.
Bennett completed 24 of 36 passes for 314 yards in that game, adding three passing touchdowns and one rushing score. The Colorado game is scheduled for 10 a.m. MT, and it could feature Lagway against Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis if Lagway returns.
