The NFL has announced that both the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints will face fines of $500,000 each due to a brawl that occurred during their joint practice earlier this week. This decision highlights the league's commitment to sportsmanship, especially during joint practices where unsportsmanlike conduct can lead to injuries.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed his concerns regarding the fines and intends to appeal the ruling. He remarked that the behavior displayed during the practice, which included players removing their helmets and engaging in physical fights, does not represent the teams or the league positively. "That's pretty harsh, I mean, pretty stiff," Jones stated, acknowledging the league's position on such matters.
Should the fines remain in place, Jones indicated he would also penalize the players involved in the brawl. Notably, linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku was cited for removing the helmet of Saints offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga and striking offensive lineman Erik McCoy.
Additionally, Saints rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner was noted for his involvement in several incidents, including a physical clash with Cowboys cornerback Caelan Carson and performing a German suplex on Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson. Details regarding the appeal process and potential player fines have yet to be provided.
