Enzo Panozzo received his first Atlantic Coast Conference weekly award after helping SMU defeat NC State 1-0 in the Mustangs’ ACC home opener. The senior defender scored the only goal and captained a defense that limited NC State to eight shots, with two on target. SMU recorded its fifth shutout of the season.
The conference announced Tuesday that Panozzo shared the co-defensive player of the week honor with Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly, according to SMU Athletics. The recognition is SMU’s second conference weekly award this season. Panozzo is from Sarasota, Florida.
SMU moved to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll after the win. The Mustangs have a 7-0-1 overall record and are 2-0-0 in ACC competition. The team is scheduled to return to conference play Sunday against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
