As the Houston Texans prepare for their 2026 regular season, they have revealed their four team captains ahead of their first game against the Buffalo Bills. This year’s selection includes quarterback C.J. Stroud, defensive end Will Anderson, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, and defensive back Jalen Pitre, who will take on this leadership role for the first time.
The change in captains comes after the departure of running back Dare Ogunbowale, who held a captaincy last season and is currently a free agent following his release by the Las Vegas Raiders. Wide receiver Nico Collins, another captain from the previous year, will not return in this capacity.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans has highlighted the significance of leadership within the team, emphasizing the strong culture he has cultivated since taking charge in 2023. The Texans have been focused on acquiring players recognized for their leadership skills, including safety Reed Blankenship, who joined from the Philadelphia Eagles, along with multiple draft picks who served as captains during their college careers.
All four captains have a minimum of three years with the Texans, with Pitre entering his fifth season, showcasing their influence and presence as the team gears up for the upcoming season. The Texans will introduce their captains during their first game against the Bills, set for 12 p.m. CT on September 13th.
