Texas A&M Aggies (2-0) dismantled visiting Arizona State Sun Devils (1-1) 48-20 on Saturday at Kyle Field in College Station. The decisive factor arrived in the final period, when the Aggies’ defense converted pressure into points, scoring twice on interception returns to close out the contest.
The home crowd of 107,523 witnessed a dominant performance that extended Texas A&M’s win streak to two games, while the Sun Devils dropped their second game of the season.
Early Balance Shattered
The contest began with a quick exchange of touchdowns. Rueben Owens II opened the scoring for the Aggies with a two-yard run, but Cutter Boley answered for Arizona State by connecting with Reed Harris for a 21-yard pass.
The Sun Devils reclaimed the lead in the second quarter as Isaiah Horton caught a four-yard pass from Marcel Reed, though Texas A&M’s Carson Smith kicked a 30-yard field goal to keep the game close. David Olano then added a 22-yard field goal for the Aggies, setting the stage for a third-quarter battle that saw both teams exchange field goals and touchdowns.
Reed and Boley Trade Blows
Marcel Reed led the Texas A&M offense with 163 passing yards on 15-of-25 completion, throwing for three touchdowns and one interception. His primary target, Terry Bussey, hauled in four passes for 58 yards. On the other side of the ball, Cutter Boley threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-34 passing, though he was picked off twice.
Reed Harris was a major threat for Arizona State, catching nine passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Kyson Brown carried the ball 13 times for 66 yards, providing a steady ground game for the Sun Devils.
Final Stretch
The fourth quarter proved decisive. Texas A&M took the lead with a 33-yard pass from Reed to Mario Craver. The Aggies then capitalized on defensive stops, with Marco Jones returning a 55-yard interception for a touchdown and Julio Humphrey adding a 45-yard interception return touchdown.
David Olano also added a 39-yard field goal to pad the lead. Arizona State was shut out in the final period, unable to answer back after their earlier momentum. The final score of 48-20 reflected the Aggies’ ability to control the game’s tempo and convert defensive efforts into immediate offensive success.
