A Collin County jury found Karmelo Anthony guilty of murder Tuesday, June 9, in the death of Austin Metcalf, according to CBS Texas.

Metcalf, 17, was fatally stabbed April 2, 2025, during a Frisco ISD track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, CBS Texas reported.

At trial, prosecutors argued Anthony intentionally stabbed Metcalf during an altercation. Defense attorneys argued Anthony acted in self-defense.

The jury convicted Anthony on the murder charge.

Sentencing to follow

CBS Texas reported that the case moves to the sentencing phase and that a murder conviction carries a punishment range of five to 99 years or life in prison.

ABC News, USA Today and Dallas Observer also reported the guilty verdict.

No sentence had been reported by the sources reviewed for this article as of Tuesday afternoon.
