The game’s momentum shifted decisively in the fifth inning when Chicago White Sox outfielder Alex Benintendi drove in three runs with a double to right field. That single play turned a tied 2-2 contest into a 5-2 lead for the visitors, effectively breaking the back of the Rangers' resistance.
Benintendi’s hit allowed runners Antonacci, Vargas, and Murakami to cross the plate, providing the offensive spark Chicago needed to pull away.
Early Scoring and Pitching Struggles
Chicago established an early advantage with a solo home run by Pederson in the first inning, blasting the ball 423 feet to right center. The White Sox extended their lead to 2-0 in the second inning when Carter singled to right, allowing Duran to score. However, Texas responded in the third inning as Vargas doubled to left, scoring Antonacci to make it 2-1.
The Rangers’ starting pitcher Jacob deGrom faced significant challenges, allowing five earned runs over 4.2 innings. The White Sox offense erupted again in the ninth inning, adding five runs to seal the victory. Vargas doubled to left to score Meidroth, followed by Acuña’s single to right that brought in two more runs. Grichuk then tripled to left to score Acuña, and B. Montgomery doubled to left to complete the scoring with Grichuk crossing the plate. The final score stood at 10-3.
Relief Pitching and Final Notes
Chicago’s bullpen maintained the lead with strong performances. Chris Murphy earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings, while Jordan Hicks, Seranthony Dominguez, Sean Newcomb, and Trevor Richards combined for 3.2 scoreless innings of relief. The Rangers’ relievers, including Peyton Gray, Ben Peoples, Robby Ahlstrom, and Jose Corniell, were unable to stop the late-inning surge. Corniell allowed five earned runs in his 1.0 inning of work.
