Lightning Strike Sparks House Fire on Harvest Meadows Lane in Van Alstyne

A Van Alstyne home was struck by lightning during Friday morning storms on June 20, causing a fire and power outage. No injuries were reported. The fire department said three homes were struck, one significantly.

VAN ALSTYNE, Texas — A home on Harvest Meadows Lane was struck by lightning during Friday morning storms on June 20, igniting a fire and knocking out power to surrounding homes. No injuries were reported.

The Van Alstyne Fire Department responded as thunderstorms moved through Grayson County before 7 a.m. Neighbors reported hearing a loud crack followed by visible flames from the roof of the single-family home. Firefighters contained the blaze before it spread to adjacent structures. The house was unoccupied at the time of the strike.

"We have had three houses hit by lightning due to today's storms," the fire department posted on social media. "One caused a significant fire, while the others only caused minor damage."

The National Weather Service had issued severe thunderstorm warnings for portions of Grayson County on Friday morning as a line of storms pushed through North Texas. KTEN and KXII covered the incident.
