Both of Van Alstyne's sales-tax-funded development corporations will look different when they meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at City Hall, 152 N. Main Drive.

The Economic Development Corporation board is welcoming four new members: Kerri Cook, Tyler Hall, Amanda Hofer and Ryan Shafer. Its first order of business is choosing a president to run the meeting, because neither of the board's top two officers is still on the board, according to the staff report. Members will then fill the vice president, treasurer and secretary posts.

Under the bylaws, officers serve one-year terms.

The Community Development Corporation board is seating three new members, Karen Favors, John Snook and Nicole Walls, and holding its yearly officer elections.

Restaurant expansion deadline

The CDC will consider giving the owner of Burnt, the restaurant at 224 E. Jefferson St., more time under an incentive agreement the board approved June 11. The agreement calls for at least $232,000 in improvements, including a permanent building where a carport now stands, a staircase up to the second floor, two new restrooms, new electrical and plumbing work and finishing the upstairs space.

It also requires the restaurant to stay open for at least five years and add jobs.

Permitting and construction scheduling have put the project behind, the staff report says, and the owner is asking to move the completion deadline from Dec. 31 to May 1, 2027.

Business update

In written updates to both boards, staff says Big D Lumber is still expected to open in early 2027.

Both boards will also meet privately to discuss an economic development prospect identified only as Project Smiley and could act on it after returning to open session.
