Diaz Drives in Key Runs

Diaz delivered a pivotal performance for the Houston Astros, launching a home run in the second inning and later driving in two more runs with a double in the sixth. His offensive output helped Houston secure a 7-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium on Thursday. The win improved the Astros’ record to 55-55, while the Angels fell to 42-67.

Diaz’s power display began in the second inning when he connected on a 425-foot home run to left center, cutting the Angels’ lead to 3-1. Later, in the sixth inning, he doubled to left, bringing Diaz and Trammell home to extend Houston’s advantage to 4-3.

He later reached on an infield single in the seventh, allowing Altuve to score, and added another RBI single in the ninth, though he was thrown out at second on the play.

Astros Pitching Holds Firm

Hayden Wesneski earned the win for Houston, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out four batters. He was supported by a strong relief effort from Bennett Sousa, who pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, and Bryan Abreu, who closed the game with a perfect 1.1-inning save, striking out one batter.

Steven Okert contributed 0.2 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits.

For the Angels, Grayson Rodriguez took the loss after pitching five innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits and striking out six. Mitch Farris struggled in his one inning of work, allowing three earned runs on two hits and three walks. Kirby Yates pitched one inning, allowing one earned run, while Brent Suter worked two scoreless innings to close out the game.

Game Highlights

The Angels initially took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Neto scored on a double by Grissom, followed by Grissom scoring on a single by Adell. Houston responded in the third inning when Peña homered to center to make it 3-2. The Angels added a run in the eighth when Schanuel scored on a sacrifice fly by Adell.

In the ninth, Walker scored on an error by third baseman Guzman, allowing Diaz to reach second and Trammell to reach third before the game ended.

Final Thoughts

The game drew an attendance of 26,417 fans to Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. The Astros’ balanced offensive attack and timely pitching proved too much for the Angels, who were unable to overcome the late-inning deficits. The loss drops the Angels further below .500, while the Astros remain at even money in the standings.
