Late Surge Decides Game

The Seattle Mariners turned a two-run deficit into a decisive 10-5 victory over the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the final two innings, where Seattle outscored Houston 6-3 to secure the win. Cole Young was the standout performer, finishing with a triple, a home run, and four runs batted in.

Scoring Sequence

Houston took an early lead in the first inning when Jose Altuve singled to shortstop, scoring Yordan Alvarez. The Astros extended their advantage to 2-1 in the second inning when Luis Garcia homered to left field. However, Seattle responded immediately in the same frame.

Young singled to the pitcher, scoring Julio Rodriguez. Following that, Luis Robert Jr. tripled to right field, bringing home Naylor and Young to tie the game at 3-3. Donovan then singled to right, scoring Robert Jr. to give Seattle a 4-3 lead.

Houston cut the deficit to 4-2 when Garcia homered again, but Seattle maintained control thereafter.

In the fourth inning, Donovan singled to left, scoring Young to make it 5-2. The eighth inning saw Seattle extend the lead to 6-2 when Rodden doubled to center, scoring Robert Jr. Donovan then singled to center, scoring Rodden for a 7-2 cushion. Houston answered with a two-run homer from Paredes to left center, scoring Pena, to make it 7-4.

The final blow came in the ninth when Young homered to right field, driving in Rodriguez and Naylor to make it 10-4. Altuve scored on a groundout to end the game, leaving the final score at 10-5.

Pitching and Records

Emerson Hancock earned the win, pitching seven innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs. He struck out eight batters and walked two. Jose Ferrer and Seranthony Dominguez each pitched one inning for Seattle.

For Houston, Hayden Wesneski took the loss after four innings of work, allowing seven hits and five earned runs. Bryan King and Ronel Blanco completed the bullpen duties for the Astros.

The Mariners improved to a 58-66 record, while the Astros fell to 63-61. The game drew an attendance of 34,664 fans. No other significant fielding errors or weather issues were reported. The three home runs in the game were hit by Garcia and Young, with Young accounting for two of the total runs scored in the late-inning surge that sealed the victory.
